Electric Vehicle Towing in Toronto

Electric motors can be damaged if the wheels turn while the car is towed. We move every EV on a flatbed.

Porsche, Tesla and most other EV makers tell owners to transport their vehicles on a flatbed. We move EVs and plug-in hybrids across town or across Ontario. Our drivers know how to put common EVs into transport or tow mode so the car can be winched on safely.

A dead 12-volt battery can stop an EV from shifting out of park. Often a boost to the 12-volt system is all it takes, so ask the dispatcher about it before booking a tow.

Step by step

How electric vehicle towing works

  1. Call dispatchCall (647) 863-6271. Tell us where you are, your vehicle's make and model, and what happened. You get the price and an arrival estimate before anything is booked.
  2. Check the 12-volt batteryMany 'dead' EVs just need a 12-volt boost. Our driver checks this first, which can save you a tow.
  3. Transport mode or dolliesIf the car has power, we put it in transport or tow mode. If the wheels are locked, we use dollies.
  4. Flatbed onlyEvery EV goes on a flatbed so no wheels turn, then to the dealer, service centre or address you choose.

Why EVs need special handling

In an electric car the wheels are connected to the motor. Turning them while towing can make the motor generate power and heat, which can cause damage. That's why EV makers say to transport on a flatbed.

EVs are also heavy, and the battery pack sits low under the floor. Our drivers know where to lift and where not to.

Electric Vehicle Towing questions

Can you tow my EV with a wheel-lift?

We don't. Every EV goes on a flatbed, or on dollies if the wheels are locked, so no wheels turn on the road.

Can you take my EV to a charging station?

Yes. If your EV ran out of charge, we can tow it to the nearest charger or to your home.
